Being friendly and affable definitely helps a candidate’s cause but being somewhat introverted isn’t a deal breaker. A smile goes a long way though.
Personality is very important Much of the time you’re getting interviewed by someone you’ll be working with so they’re not going to pick someone they don’t like. That's not to say you can get hired on personality alone, you need to have some of the skills they require or show potential for things you’re lacking but personality will still go a long way. Just be yourself. Don’t force a personality that you don’t have. Interviews are always going to be intimidating and no one expects you to be a professional public speaker. But you can reframe the interview as more of a conversation, and remember that you're interviewing them as well. I once enlisted a friend to mock interview me, and honestly I felt at ease and she helped draw out my best answers. You could try something like that.
I often feel awkward in the parts of the interview where I have to talk about myself. But aside from that, I just try to be congenial and show some sense of humor. People obviously don't want to hire someone who will be difficult to get along with, so it's good to show some flexibility and the ability to be adaptable in various circumstances.
I definitely think as someone who does hiring that we look for people with good personalities that will bring a good vibe to the team. However, being an introvert doesn't mean you won't still do well in ther interview and get the job.
