If you gotta go hold co, Stagwell is the last main player I would still work at
Better than the rest
Better than the rest, but that’s cause they still exist as they originally were created. While the creative agencies still focus on their “visions” they all still need to deliver to their revenue boss every quarter: Stagwell. And they are all located in the Freedom Tower.
Chief
Out of all of them, it’s probably one of the better ones. They’re not as huge and (most of) their agencies are actually growing, not shrinking or merging.
That being said, they’re still a holding company.
Stagwell’s shops are doing well because they’re zigging against the global behemoth agencies, which are only advantageous to a certain kind of client.
Having worked at one of their shops, they seem to grant their agencies a bit more operating autonomy than Omnicom or WPP. (I'm at an Omnicom agency now.)
The agencies get way more autonomy. But many also aren’t tapping into the network in ways that would benefit them. (Then again, the big hold co. agencies don’t either.)
Just joined from being at an independent most of my career. Although it’s still pretty early, I don’t see too much of a difference. They seem to let agencies maintain their spirit and I don’t feel like they’re a looking force around us.
Feels like the whole “autonomy” thing is quickly shifting this year. Mark Penn is MAGA and he’s becoming more and more Trumpian by the day.
