I live in Lincoln Park and try to be in uber no later than 5:15 for my 7am flight. Traffic starts getting real bad around 5:45 on I-90 so if you leave even 10 or 15 minutes later your commute time can go from 45 mins to 70+ mins.
Definitely play it safe your first time or two and then you can adjust at your own risk after that.
I would leave around 5. Chances are there won’t be much traffic until closer to 6am, but I would budget for an hour.
It’s 30mins if you are in car before 5:45. Then it quickly becomes 60mins or more
I live in Wicker and love the blue line, but you shouldn’t need to bother with that if your flight is at 7 or earlier. It’ll take you 10-15 to get to the stop, then 30 on the blue line itself... while your Uber will drop you at the door and take less time as long as you leave before 5:30. Definitely consider the blue line if you ever manage to have a flight in the 7:30-8 time, as traffic gets far worse
You should allow at least an hour, probably more
A conservative approach would be to be in a uber at 515. It will help just in case theres bad traffic or security
How much of a risk taker are you? I live in river north and go at 05:30 for my 0700 flight. But it’s sometimes a nail biter if there’s rain or snow. I never have time to get coffee
Take the blue line and don't worry about traffic
I’d plan between 5-5:15. Even 5:15 can be a nail biter if it is rainy or the Uber’s cancel a lot.
5 to 5:15
60-70min commute.
Thanks guys! Have only flown out on Monday evenings really so new to the morning grind. Appreciate the advice
Do you have pre-check? If not, go conservative.
I second the blue line approach — no, it’s not as fancy as a car / Uber, but it’s predictable.
Yeah — you just take a taxi/Uber to Grand Blue Line, and then hop on... ~5-8 minutes to Blue Blue Line, then ~35 minutes from Grand to O’Hare on the train.
5:00am with all contingencies! It is O’hare after all. Even the security lines are crazy in the morning.
515 if you want to play safe
