How many meetings per day is too many? Some days, I feel like my entire job is just sitting in meetings. I try to push back on the unnecessary ones, but with leadership syncs, 1:1s, project updates, and “quick” check-ins, my calendar is still stacked. For those of you balancing management and actual work, how many meetings per day is your limit before it starts feeling impossible to get anything done?

There is no such thing as too many meetings as long as the meetings have a clear agenda and have a concise discussion around the topic , are absolutely required/are not being taken just to satiate the whims of someone in leadership and are sticking to the allotted time.


The moment you start following this rule, you’ll see the unnecessary meetings reduce automatically. But yeah, you’ll have to take a stand and maybe have a few discussions or arguments with people about this guardrail

I have a direct report who is smart, passionate about her job and can be really innovative. However she carries this enormous weight of responsibility, for needing to do everything, do it right, make sure it's perfect, not trusting colleagues to help. I got into Management a year ago and now I miss developing. How do software engineers turned managers feel about their switch over to people management?

One of my top talents just put in his two weeks notice and I had nothing to offer him to stay. I told upper management this was going to happen! I have issues “delegating” or simply assigning tasks, which as a Manager is a whole thing. Like I feel “bad” asking my people to do things that i know i can do but shouldn’t because it’s not up to me.
