SM promotion around year 6/7. Went from $145k to $195k or something overnight and immediately felt worth it.

For me, about four years. That was when I left public for industry. Went from 60+ hour weeks most of the year to 40ish fully remote. Within a year of leaving public, my salary had increased 30%. I’m still not rich, but have great work life balance and meaningful work, which makes it “worth it” to me.

Nearly 20 years in and have felt overworked and underpaid the entire time. I'm still searching for that unicorn role that pays well and has an actual WLB.

I hope you find it

Immediately. I took time off from college and was making $11/hr + OT in a chemicals warehouse doing 50-60hrs a week rain wind snow or 100 degree weather. Exposure to noxious chemicals and wrecking my body in the process. You “made it“ there if you operated a fork making $15. Making 50K to sit in AC or heat is easy in comparison. Now have over doubled my salary since starting. Perspective is everything.

Never felt worth it and never felt motivated in this field bc the pay isn’t great. After three years realized I’d be happier elsewhere and went to grad school to start over in a field that’s a tad more interesting where the pay is 3x at every level

Pivoting to law. Would not recommend for the vast majority, but I was in a rare situation where I had set myself up well through investments, frugal living, full scholarships throughout my entire academic career, side hustles. I had a lot of passive income, free housing, and a full scholarship to a top school. Also have always enjoyed school more than work and mine is chill enough bc of its rank that u can kind of turn the last two years into a break (very much like an MBA program lol)

If I could go back in time, I would’ve majored in CS or just gone into a biz role in tech, or worst case scenario do finance, but I had no idea what I was doing at that age

5 years. Went from $50K to $130K.

Yup, same exact thing happened to me

Haven’t felt it yet. I get paid $220k 8 years in. I have no life no matter how I try to set boundaries and nothing is ever good enough for leadership. I’m actively looking for a new role.

I’m in the same boat. 225K base 10 years in but there’s no WLB and the staff/seniors are so demotivated and don’t care

like

A little over 15 years for me. Started as a staff at $50k. After 15 years, on cusp of making partner, director comp > $300k & rapidly rising.

likehelpful

What is the cap for director? That seems like a super long time to make partner when comparing to other industries. Has WLB been bad all 15 years/are you in PA? If so the 300k still seems underpaid

Probably around the 8 year mark

Not horrible definitely an investment

Still don't and I'm 12 yrs in. All my tech friends dwarf me in comp

Jeez, the tech industry is just wild

First year.

6 years in and feel wildly underpaid in tax. Like 30-40k under market (I know this from talking to recruiters)

like

110k base 4.5 years in, will be ~130k base 5 years in.

Still feel underpaid but every year I have felt slightly less underpaid. Maybe eventually it will seem fair if the trend continues.

Never. I’ve been in corporate accounting for 20+ years. We closed the books today. I got home late, wife mad at me for working too much, too much caffeine and haven’t been able to relax yet. I have been going non stop for a few years, large growth in the company, time to ask for a raise.

I was hired within the last year as a site supervisor. I did well my first few projects with the company. They asked if I’d be interested in transitioning into a construction manager role. I agreed. Now I still am the site supervisor on projects but I’m also doing all the construction manger duties on the project as well. Essentially 2 jobs for one salary. We have yearly reviews in December but no talks of raise have been discussed. Any help on approaching this to my boss?

During my tenure at TCS, I hadn't linked Aadhaar with UAN because the aadhaar mandate was happening around the time of my resignation.. After resigning from TCS, I took a 3 year break from my job for personal reasons.
In the meantime, EPFO had migrated most of the processes from offline to online.
Then i joined EY where I was told that it was my responsibility to link aadhaar with UAN.
Further, I can't see any entry from EY in my PF passbook. I can see the TCS entry but can't mark my exit.
