I like where I am. Leadership likes me. I like our mission. I have built expertise and relationships. My quality of life is extremely good.
Stay. Challenges at work, especially in DS, aren’t always reasonable; you can challenge yourself in your free time.
I have a DS friend who starts his mornings reading academic papers and has made it part of his schedule for the past few years while working a job similar to what you describe. He seems happy and so do you so why change that?
What is the drawback? Seems win-win.
Have you talked to leadership in your current role about your trajectory and what you need to feel engaged? Those conversations can be hard, but if you like everything else about the company, and they’re invested in keeping you on the team, it seems like it would be to everyone’s benefit for you to be transparent with them about what could make your job more fulfilling.
Definitely do this. But if you're feeling the itch to go. Don't feel bad about exploring other options or leaving. But if your current thing is good, consider waiting a bit for the offer that is both interesting and a pay bump.
There’s always a level of risk involved and sometimes you just have to take a leap of faith - maybe this new place will be even better.
I think the bigger question will be to assess where you are in life and can you let it disrupt a little.
If you’re bored take the jump. Sure, you code a lot but are you growing in ways that satisfy you?
I love the team I lead, the work is SUPER cool and super technical. But I’m being given zero challenges that I have to wrestle with - I’ll jump at the next sign of excitement. Tack on a pay bump? Hell yes.
Life is **short**. Your company will throw you away the minute you are not useful.

I accepted the offer. I don't think there was a wrong choice here. But I really liked some things about the new employer. And I spoke at length with my manager before accepting it, and he outlined what it might be possible to do if I stayed, but also was really supportive of me leaving. Anyway, I'm excited, and I do think it'll be possible for me to go back in a few years if I want to.
Take it 100%.. i am feeling the same in my current role. I am getting too comfortable and feel like i need to move.
Min +20% bump. It is usually not worth it to lose all your existing internal capital.
Considering you are already pretty happy in your current job, a 20-25+% increase would make a jump more worthwhile.
I definitely value being challenged and growing technically. Use your time to upskill or find new projects to potentially work on; otherwise look on teams that are growing as they’ll have you do a ton. “Wearing multiple hats” gets such a bad name but you learn quickly that way because you’re forced to (and esp in analytics, you learn even more quickly how to see a problem and solution in the eyes of many stakeholders imo).
Not pretty sure what’s the real question. It seems like the new stuffs are good to go. Handsome paycheck & learning opportunities?
I look forward to seeing how this story plays out
Take it, obviously.
Doooooo it!!!!
