How much effort do hiring managers put into verifying references? If they call my references, and no one answers, will this be a deal breaker for me?

Is it ok to switch to Big data tech stack like Hadoop, Hive, Python after 7 years of experience from .Net technologies ? Which of the two field is good for long term perspective.

Does delaying my interview hurt my chances of getting an offer? Looking at how aggressively McKinsey is hiring, I’m afraid delaying interviews may put me at a disadvantage. On the flip side, I’m working pretty long hours at my current job so I don’t have a lot of prep time. Please advise!

I just got a really great offer, only downside is the eligibility for maternity leave is after 12 months of employment. We got a faint positive today but have had so many chemical pregnancies over the past year that I am not confident it will stick this time BUT I am on aspirin and progesterone for this try … so it could.. I found a company I was really excited about working at. I applied for the job and went through 5 rounds of interviews. At the end they said I was OVER qualified and they want me for a different position higher up in the company. I was super excited they then had me go through 5 more rounds, 3/5 people were the same. The interviews mostly went "didn't you get the job, I highly recommend you? I'll just put you down as a 10". After those were done they told me I was UNDER qualified. Can't win!

Currently working at CNA and have noticed that people that come into the company are making more than people that have been here for years. Is this common ? Also what is the average starting salary for an APD adjuster ?

I've done so well in this new role within the company that they are hiring another person to assist with what I do. I've voiced to my boss that I'd like to manage this department and they indicated that this is the thought for the future. Now they are asking me to train this person while I have my plate full.
