How much longer does shut down need to last for things to never be the same again? Is there still hope to go back? May? July? 2021?

Normal is not going to happen until a vaccine is developed and that takes time, 18 months is being thrown around as a target.

Hopefully a therapeutic is developed and on the market much sooner and that would be a game changer.

If we can develop a contact tracing and testing program at scale, then things will be closer to normal. But how much faith do you have in government to deliver that. I have none.

Too many unknowns and I’m growing more pessimistic.

like

States need to start accepting that other states will reopen and it will be catastrophic. That has to be factored into the plans going forward.

I’ll be devastated if there is any kind of resurgence in NYC because of idiots in other states. Anyone expecting to return to normal doesn’t live here and hasn’t been personally affected by it.

like

Things will eventually get back to normal. Or we’ll just accept a new normal 🤷🏼‍♀️

like

Remember how things were before and after 9/11? This is a little bit like that. Things WILL get back to normal again. But it will be a slightly different normal.

like

Not like people going to work normal. I'm asking about mindset. How long till this actually changes consumer behavior forever, market forces forever, etc.

like

Things have already changed forever bud. We ain’t traveling for work again in 2020. Restaurant and gym chains are considering bankruptcy. Sometime in 2021 concerts and sports will happen again but it won’t be the same ‘normal’ as before.

like

States are starting to reopen and we have started to flatten the curve, so idk what you guys are talking about. People always assume the worst, things will return to normal later this year, I promise you.

They’re opening up again because they’re stupid, not because it’s safe to do so.

like

The curve is going to pop back up regardless, it will just be delayed until a vaccine is developed and we can’t realistically be on lockdown for 18 months. Look into Sweden where they are open but it’s still a policy of if you fear you’ll contract the virus be smart and don’t go out/take precautionary measures, wash your hands, and protect people at high risk. Sweden was supposed to be much worse to comparable European countries but they’re on the same pace as countries on lockdown. Obviously it’s a small sample of evidence but we should be thinking of a plan to open so people can get back to work. We for the most part have safe jobs so we could realistically all wfh for a year but other people can’t

Isn’t there that cliche that habits take 21 days to form? I’m sure there’s some more nuanced research out there than that, but I’d argue that many habits have already changed

We don’t know, but the way this country is dragging its feet on ramping up testing capacity, it’s gonna be a while.

Oh well people have to get back to work to prevent 80% unemployment from mass layoffs. People should want to go back to work to keep their jobs, people are going to die, its just way that it is.
