I’ve been chipping away at this mountain for over a decade and a half. At one point, interest and life chaos ballooned it to over $300K (thanks, capitalism). Aggressive payments when possible, side hustles, and a lot of ramen dinners. I’ve thrown every windfall (tax returns, bonuses, random $20 found in a coat pocket) at it.
Around 60k, I have had a lot of ups and downs during repayment. I have a couple of loans with higher interest rates. Trying to pay those down and then consolidate. Need the extra money though to handle it and that has been really hard to come by lately!
Congratulations - that is an incredible accomplishment. You are so close!
I have likely paid >$300K across 17 years. It’s hard to even know exactly how much I’ve paid since I was making minimum payments for so long, forbearance, etc. I had a goal of paying my loans off before giving birth to my second child. I paid my loans off in August 2024. I had my child in September 2024. :)
I don’t know because interest keeps climbing and I stopped checking about this time two years ago I had $260,000 in student loan debt and I don’t think I’ve made much of dented in it and I’m sure interest is taking me over to $300,000 limit by now so I just assume looking at my balance would depress me
