Additional Posts in Salary Negotiations
Hey! Any Google folks know if it’s possible to negotiate fully remote if a contract role is hybrid? Personally, I don’t want to relocate and go to the office on a contract role given the current economy. Plus, I’m assuming contractors are the first to go in layoffs. I just think it’s a fair trade off if I’d be allowed to work fully remote. I’m also trying to have flexibility to manage my Airbnb business in a different country. Same time zone as the home office if I’d travel weeks at a time.

I research what salary someone in the role should earn. However, that’s it. Maybe I should be preparing more?
I generally don’t prepare, tbh. I shoot from the hip.
I don't really prepare that much. If they have made their decision, there isn't much I can do about it. If they haven't made a decision by that point, I'm assuming it's mostly vibes at that point and I can't really prepare for that.

Comp plans vary so widely in sales that there is not really a map of title A gets salary B, and no amount of research will net any concrete answers. I make sure that I understand the posted range, let them offer first, and position myself in the mid-high end of the range due to the number of years of experience that I bring to the table on day 1.
When there isn't a range posted I have a rehearsed total comp conversation range that I am looking for, and I anchor salary just above where I am at today.
If the two parties are too far apart, there is no amount of research or negotiation that will make it work. Know your worth, decide ahead of time on your minimum barrier to entry, and move on to the the next opportunity if that threshold isn't met.
No prep, I don't apply to the job if I am not happy with the range and bail early if they don't have a reasonable number in mind.

I prepare pretty consistently and that has been most helpful to me. That way it isn’t as much time prepping for a specific convo and I know my main talking points already
