I might be very lucky that I didn’t join Google before the summer as I’m not stressed about potential layoffs… but on the other hand i do feel unlucky to finally fulfill my dream and make it through the recruitment process, only to get stuck in the team-matching stage. And then the freeze.. how long can people stay on the list until they get hired? Or does your place on the list ever expire?Google

This happens so frequently that when we see it happening again and again, we can trick ourselves into thinking that is how such kids' whole lives are, and yep, that would be sad for the parents to farm their responsibility onto the iPad for the life of the child. In many cases though, our view of the family dinner out is just a narrow slice of a world where the kids are the central focus of everything in the parents' lives. In that world, what we see at dinner is the parents escaping and enjoying time together and talking while the kids are safely distracted by the machines... Not much, but you take what you can get when you can. As for the noise... it helps if you can designated a section for those who need high chairs, booster seats or whatever... The extra high chair space can mean more space between tables. Bonus if you have a server or two whose first child was a decade or so ago, meaning they've already acquired the life skill of tuning out the screams of little angels that would induce migraines in lesser mortals.
It happens all the time. I understand it when it's really little kids - it's hard to keep a baby or toddler happy when they're forced to sit still at dinner. It's way sadder when it's older kids doing it. Like what's the point in going out to eat if you don't even talk to each other? You might as well have just stayed home and watched TV instead.
I've long given up on expecting people to have any social skills. And I can't imagine what future generations will be like after childhoods spent starting at screens all the time. We're fortunate, we don't get too many families with children, and those that do tend to be well-behaved.
I have to say I have been guilty of letting my kids use iPads when they were little. Now that they’re a little older, they can sit still without electronics so they no longer use iPads when we go out. But let me tell you, when they were little, I was just so exhausted I just needed that extra time to just eat and relax and talk with my spouse…
