Even W+K has flops every once in a while.

Hi fishes! I volunteer with The Art of Good, a creative collective helping small businesses affected by the pandemic. They are seeking a little help from a media professional. Need an SEM POV for a small business looking to change their name and relaunch their brand. This is non-paid. More about giving back while in-between gigs. :) If you can help out or want to learn more, please reach out to me via LinkedIN. Thank you!! www.linkedin.com/in/karenkohn/

It’s more of a norm (and easier to know) as you get further in your career. You move to a new agency, you get familiar with the most well-known work they’ve done. You pitch or onboard a new client, you get familiar with the work they’ve done before working with you and who did it. All of this slowly starts to form a map in your mind that becomes easier to populate in detail if you remain even casually aware of the big award shows and headlines about who’s winning which pitches. It’s sort of like how you can know a lot about which actors have been in which movies without intentionally studying it (or even seeing many of the movies).
This is true, Joaquin Phoenix was supposed to star in the horror-thriller Split but dropped out last minute, giving the role to James McAvoy.
I think it’s important to know what’s going on in the industry you’re in. It helps with inspiration, as well as making sure your ideas don’t resemble others. I spend like 10-20min a day watching or checking out ads a day.
The more you continue to be a student of advertising the better you be.

I don’t either. You’d have to be obsessed to get on that level or at least checking Ad Age daily?I’ve never understood it.
Little Caesars is work most people i know are familiar with. I’m always watching the top agencies and seeing what’s getting made. I feel like it would very much hurt me to be unaware of what’s going on in my own field of work.
You’ve got the lingo down though
