How to handle senior manager at firm, that is only semi-responsive to pings/calls? You’re left to figure it out on your own.

Have a check in with him or her. Ask how he or she likes to be communicated with for various matters. For example, do you prefer that I gather up all my questions and set up a meeting to walk through it with you, or should I ask questions as I go? When something is urgent, should I call or text? Should we have regular touch points or meet just when needed?

like

Thanks! seems like they prefer calls. Im also new to the firm, still learning.

Yup set up those meetings with your questions. It’s very distracting throughout the day to receive pings with questions. It’s also hard to bill your time sporadically like that

Yup have a paper trail and also ask if there is someone else you can talk with? Do you have a buddy? Or a friend at the firm you can talk openly with to ask questions etc. ? It’s not the best way to start but it’s not uncommon that a Sr isn’t prepared to manage people yet. Find workarounds. Look for a more senior mentor

Please setup a call or ask their communication preferences. Senior managers are too busy to respond to your incessant pings, calls, emails. Sorry if that’s harsh, but it’s reality. You’ll be rewarded over time if you take responsibility for communicating well and keeping things on track.

True, I went from medium-sized firm to smaller firm. It just seems like a pattern already, plus at my other firm the senior managers were usually a little more responsive.

Figure it out ….

Boss: just do what is informed to be done, Don try to be over smart
Employee : I think this is the smartest way to jus DM Directly instead of getting likes & other reactions. Do you think that's really imp.?

Hi fishes!

I am seeing too many post about awards like rising star, Kudos, etc. People keep telling there managers recommended them for these awards.
My manager doesn't interact much with us. I consider myself as some one who has worked hard for project and other intiatives. Should I ask my manager to consider me and if yes how should I initiate it.

Thank you.

For those managers and senior managers who are directly working with new staff and interns - how are you maintaining the quality? I am at a breaking point now as I have no seniors on 3 of my clients. How am I supposed to concentrate on complex allocations if I have to do all the updates on basic M-1s. All the experienced S2 and S3s I trained got pulled into other engagements as acting managers. I am about to smash my laptop into pieces 😫
