Everything is development specific, because all of the big home builders use sub-contractors.
As a general rule, if you expect to stay in the home for less than 15 years, you should be fine. Also make sure you have a good inspector before closing.

Both property taxes and insurance tend to go up slightly each year. Depending on your insurance company, many have had major increases in the last 2 years from the wildfires.
Echoing others in that it can vary greatly development to development. Most of the horror stories you hear about are from Florida / Texas where the building code tends to be more lax and the subs tend to be more "methy". If you're early enough you can sneak in a pre-drywall inspection it's well worth your money.
In my personal experience, most large-scale development builders—Lennar included—tend to cut corners. The focus is often on volume, not craftsmanship, which results in homes that look good on the surface but can have issues beneath. That said, I do believe there are high-quality custom builders out there who take pride in their work and aren’t caught up in the production mentality.
It also really depends on where you live. For example, in Florida, our building standards are stricter due to hurricanes and insurance requirements. I saw someone claim that Florida and Texas have lax building codes—that’s simply not true for Florida. We have to meet specific structural and wind mitigation codes that go well beyond what’s required in other states. Anyone suggesting otherwise probably isn’t familiar with the actual permitting and inspection process here.
