Wow, I'm really sorry to hear that. 10 minutes late really isn't that big of a deal, in my opinion. And it's surprising that they would let you go instead of adjusting your schedule or helping accommodate your arrival time. That says a lot about how little they are willing to work with their employees.
Most companies policies are up to 15 minutes late.
So you had an extra five minutes .
Get your shit together and get to work on time, not rocket science you young jedi morons
Sorry to hear that! It's a lousy way to treat someone, but some companies do that. They have what's pretty much a no tolerance policy on being late. When things like that happen all we can do is try to learn from it. From now on, avoid situations with policies like that, or just make sure you can do everything required before things can go bad.
I never like to hear of someone losing their job, but policies are in place for a reason. Most employees are not 100% ready to work right when they get there and still need an additional 5-10 minutes to get themselves together. Now 10 minutes late has turned into 15-20 minutes late. Most schedules are made to the business needs. It is not always feasible to adjust and bring in later because that might not work for the business needs. The business has a need when hiring (hopefully they are sharing that with you during the hiring process) and the applicant should have specific needs as well (which you should be sharing with the hiring Manager). If both needs are accommodated, than it is a good match. If personal situations change, than the shared needs no longer align. I hate you lost your job, but it is an opportunity for you to find something that fits "YOUR" needs better. Less stress for you worrying about whether you are going to be able to make it on time. Good luck in your search.
It is a shame they weren't more accommodating. A few minutes once in a while isn't that big of a deal. I do kinda see their point though. A new employee who is late frequently is often seen as a red flag for what is to come. It is why probation periods are there in the first place. Either way, I'm sorry you are dealing with that and I hope you find an amazing job soon!
