I have observed that many big brand companies (Siemens, BOSCH, etc) flex their brand value in job market and try to hire talent at comparatively lesser compensation than comparatively smaller companies (ITC Infotech, L&T, etc) who are willing to dish out a bit more more.

I believe this could be because the big brands get a lot of applications than the lesser known ones who also have more scope to grow. Is this right observation and conclusion?

I was planning to decline a job offer at McKinsey and before I could email he called and asked for final decision and I said I cannot join due to a personal reason, which is the case in reality and just mention I was about to drop an email and apologised for the inconvenience.

He called me unprofessional and said you could have informed. I know I am at fault as well as the offer was released on Monday.
