Sorry to hear that! I was in a situation like yours in a previous position. Just take it one day at a time and celebrate the small wins. Don't be too hard on yourself.
Coach
I have a huge, very destructive problem within my family and it's driven me to that proverbial ledge more times than I can count. Most recently, it was Christmas Day and I was seriously considering making sure I didn't have to face another Christmas. I called the psychiatrist I've been seeing for years and he made me come to the hospital on Boxing Day and I spent the day in the psych clinic. When I was talking with him, in desperation I said "Does this ever stop hurting?" and he replied with a sentence that made me stop and think. He said "It will stop hurting when you stop caring about it". I know that it's much easier said than done, but it's a very true statement and one that I've been repeating to myself several times a day when I start mulling over the problem, knowing that I can't do anything about it. I think this same mindset would be great to adopt in a work situation. People can think, say and do what they will. YOU (or I) don't have to take it on board. Learn to let it go in one ear and out the other, and remind yourself several times a day if necessary, that it will only stop hurting when YOU stop caring about it.
What's going on? Sometimes the ledge and a jump into a fresh pond is the answer.... I'm feeling it too, just the mundane monotonous job duties mixed with adult workplace drama that makes it feel like high school, it's absurd. We're all managers, in what should be a very adult career...
It will all be there tomorrow and if you finish it, it'll be replaced by something else. Meaning, it's a never ending cycle of work. Take your time and be kind to yourself!
I was going through this for a while, especially with being on call once a month. Late night phone calls and broken sleep. What helped me is engaging in practices to build up my inner strength. I like to do cold showers and ice baths. This helps me develop resilience and this allows me to get through challenging things at work , that often times puts me in a negative downward spiral. Try to get some separation from your thoughts and see them as just that: thoughts. Neither true or false. They are trying to be helpful (I.e putting you in a flight mode to get away from something stressful) but lack clarity and perspective. If I left my current job because of listening to my thoughts , it would very likely be the biggest career mistake.
