I am currently one of two reading teachers at the high school I work in and three in the district, which consists of two high schools. I think I would be more effective, and it would would a) make more of a difference and b) be more enjoyable teaching at a k-6 school. I have an MA in reading K-12 so as long as itโ€™s reading, I can teach at an elementary school. I tutor after school from my house for kids in the younger grades. The 2nd grader Iโ€™m currently tutoring went from an F to an A- in just

You are probably correct, but schools just place people. Then they evaluate the effectiveness later (after frustrating teachers and students). I was the only reading specialist for our district (K-12 and three buildings) and this year I have been teaching first graders and recently moved to fill in for a Kindergarten teacher that is out for maternity leave the remainder of the year.
Keep your job, quietly starting your own business in reading (tutoring). I have been thinking of doing the same thing. Sending good vibes to you ๐ŸŽ๐Ÿ€๐Ÿ˜‡๐Ÿ™โœŒ๐Ÿง˜โ€โ™‚๏ธ

I am right there with you. Every time I interview, they tell me I donโ€™t have elementary experience. ๐Ÿ˜ข I have 16 years experience in special education/reading though. Itโ€™s so frustrating.

Anyone with recent experience recruiting for Boston Consulting Group? Got in touch with a recruiter through referral, was directed to submit an application and already finished my pymetrics. Anyone know when I would be able to hear back and what the hiring timeline looks like? Recruiter suggested to get back in a few weeks but isnโ€™t it too slow? McKinsey sent me an invite for 1st interview in a few days after they received my referral.

When drafting a brief or other submissions for court or arbitration, do you use words such as clearly, erroneously, etc. to emphasize certain points? Our managing partner says that we should, but all of the writing guides for litigators that I've read repeats the mantra "show, don't tell" and explain that most judges dread such words.

I know that the politically correct thing to do here is to do whatever the managing partner wants me to do, but I just wanted to ask for other ppl's opinion.

What interventions do you use for grades 5-6? How do you track progress?

5th grade ELA teacher in search of novel ideas and resources .

I am looking for ideas for a high school intervention class with students reading at PP-4th. I am a brand new teacher and have never taught intervention but we are extremely short staffed. I inherited the class mid-last semester and the former teacher had no framework whatsoever. I'm pulling grade level texts and trying to work on reading fluency and comprehension but don't feel like what I'm doing is effective, and the students are not very engaged. Any great resources I should check out?

We have a large unused professional library that includes a variety of authors, topics, and lots of the scholastic teaching resource books. Most are more than 5 years old, some much older.
