I don't see any responses, so I'll chime in. I'm not a math teacher, so I thought others might respond but since it is just me for now here are my two cents.
Two factors, #1 with all the changes to local, state, and possible literacy/dyslexia laws coming to the forefront, many districts might not be ready to hire in this field unless you can establish evidence of a study in research-based interventions, and now the hot button, Science of Reading. Does your masters cover reading or SOR? These two are very different entities. #2 do you have certification covering special ed laws?
Now, having said that, accepting the position in the field of math as you pointed out has many factors in common with reading. Possible side areas are dyslexia and dysgraphia. If you are competent in Math and want to get started in the school system, accept the job and use your skills to improve not only their math but reading skills.
Good luck!
