"I have some very heavy things going on in my personal life which are impacting my ability to execute as I normally do. Is there room to temporarily delegate some tasks elsewhere while I navigate this? Whether or not that's possible, I also just want to ask for some patience and understanding while I process what's happening. If there is anything I can do to work with you to help make that feasible, please let me know."
Godsend. Thank you <3
Totally understand your hesitancy, but it’s okay to be human at work. You don’t need to spill all the tea. Say you’re going through a tough personal situation and trying your best, but might need a little grace. Most decent supervisors will get it. You’re not weak for struggling, just real.
Thank you for giving me a little confidence. I am questioning everything right now.
I went through this three years ago, you have my sympathies. It's awful, especially if there are children involved. There's no reason for you to feel embarrassed, though. Anyone with an iota of empathy will understand how much strain it puts on all aspects of your life. Sit down with them and see if they're able to accommodate you in a way that would make your life easier. My manager allowed me to WFH a few days each week so I could take my kids to therapy and ensure they were handling everything okay, and I'll always appreciate her for it.
Thank you for the kind comment and for giving me a little comfort that people understand. It has been so hard to know how people will react.
It looks like you've already received some awesome advice on how to handle, but I just want to say keep going. Keep pushing and make room for yourself to heal and recover. Don't be embarrassed AT ALL. The worst thing you can do is try to ignore it and hope it just "goes away." You're doing the right thing and making the right moves. Just keep moving in the right direction.
Thank you so much <3 I really appreciate it

I’m dealing with similar issues and he was very supportive- even introduced me to a lawyer. It’s best to be open in the beginning before your supervisor questions your work.
That is amazing to hear! Thanks for giving me a little confidence moving forward
