Additional Posts in Administrative Assistants
Hi all, does anyone know of any recruiters or hiring managers that work in Affirm Inc. I've been applying for a couple of jobs with them . The role I have applied for I know lam a extraordinary fit for
100% and can help the company/ department succeed. I have a good deal of experience with this role and would love to talk to a recruiter or a hiring manager more about this. If anyone
could reach out to me if you have any information on that I would greatly appreciate it.

it has been this way ever since i started working as an office manager, secretary and admin assistant. They want you to know everything, and teach everyone else everything and speak several languages and have a degree and and pay you practically nothing as if yea they are doing you a favor. And after all that, you are treated like an alien and you won't be included in anything socially except to plan and manage the social happenings of the office. Its insulting i agree. I've been doing this work since 1970's and nothing has changed. I have worked in other states, in federal gov't and active duty military and now i'm back in NC and nothing has changed re this position.
It's even more so in the military. Since you were there, you know how stubborn they are about old culture. The military also reflects the rest of the world; everyone is so allergic to change.
Yes, and I will add there is age discrimination as well. I am 69, and have to still work. Trying to find even am part time job is hard. I am college educated, and have many years of experience in manufacturing, purchasing, higher education,
But yet, when I do get to interview, I don't pass inspection.
Going through the same issues.
I've seen some positions as low as $10!! Like they're doing us a favor by hiring us. So many people want to outsource their admin assistance, they think they can lowball us to barely a living wage. It's crazy.
Exactly, they will get what they pay for. Turn over
Yes, most definitely!
I have been applying for jobs for a year now, since losing my Admin position in the energy sector.
Admins are the heart of a company whether small, mid size or corporate, and they are the least paid.
I ended up quitting and leaving the field all together. It’s a whole other layer when you’re black in those fields. I was getting paid less than the woman who was there for 15 years but didn’t even know how to open her outlook email. It was insulting bc they paid her 60k annually and I’m training her how to do a job that I was new at and only making 52k. BYE, find somebody else to do it. Now I’m a hairstylist with a 100k earning potential
I’ve worked for lots of different bosses since 1992. you have to deal with all types of moods, quirks and sometimes a lot of drama and nonsense .. There is NO way I would work for a wage like that. Try 3 times that. I did see where they also wanted a Bachelors degree and be multi lingual. Good luck. I just retired so I’m happy not to be dealing with some of the craziness I’ve had to endure over the years. Ames you wonder how some of these large companies EVER get anything done or their products out the door.
Most companies are offering low pay for Admin Asst. Or Receptionist. They want someone to "be a team player" and do all kinds of work with crazy experience, but they dont want to pay people what they are worth. Or pay fairly for the amount of work and experience they're asking for. If I'm getting paid minimum wage, I'm doing minimum wage work. End of story.
Right?? WTH, it's so depressing! They want you to work hard, with 25+ responsibilities and only on minimum wage, it's insane to me.
Yeah I've seen some crazy stuff out there. It definitely varies per region but I think some people also see the rates when they outsource overseas and think they can pay us the same amount. $15 feels like a slap in the face and that they don't see the value.
When I see jobs posted for questionably low wages, I usually assume it is either not a real job posting (seems to be more frequent than we assume), or it is posted by those who have no clue and are, therefore, the worst choice to apply to.
There are also many that are apparently experimenting with AI to choose their possible candidates for them. This, too, is a good possibility for explaining the ridiculously low wage postings. However, like many job seekers, I also believe this is a grave error on the part of employers and hiring managers. They will, without doubt, miss finding applicants who would be excellent picks. This method will also, IMO, serve to balloon the inevitable loss of effectiveness and instinctive nature of matching employees with positions - by human beings. This will, in time, ultimately weaken an entire business conducting, self-sustaining process of goods and services rendered which sustains civilization in a productive manner.
For those entities who are posting positions as available but are not actually hiring, there should be consequences. It is, after all, false advertisement. And the job boards posting "jobs" that are never filled after 30-40 days - or longer - should also have some consequence for not following up and ensuring that what they allow advertised is real.
Of course, these are my own opinions. But it seems there are a lot of people who feel the same way.
I agree 100%, I live in the Fort Lauderdale area and these positions that I see have been posted have been there for over three months.
I am struggling with this as well. Over a year of struggling after being laid off. All I have is determination and a prayer.
I am absolutely in agreeance with you, I've been out of work since 4/2023, had one job & it only lasted 2 months! My savings are dwindling & I have little in the bank....and I am a lucky one! I feel for all of us, it's crazy depressing!
I completely agree. It is crazy!!! Or they put the job listed as an administrative assistant and it has the qualifications as an office manager. Florida needs to get with the times! Especially with the rates of insurance.
It is crazy. There was a greeter/hostess job at Bob Evans for $15 hr. McDonald's pays $14. Good luck getting that level of experience for that price.
They keep saying AI is going to replace us. I’d like to see AI hand out birthday or anniversary cards, plan a company picnic or holiday party, order lunch or snacks/coffee for a last minute meeting, clean up a conference room after a luncheon, be a horticulture expert to take care of the office plants, file paperwork (yes, there are small businesses that have not gone digital), mail out checks, hand out paychecks (so many in manufacturing don’t use/trust direct deposit) print shipping paperwork, and so many more manual jobs that can’t be automated! And this is coming from someone who went from a white collar, all digital/paperless job to a small blue collar all paper job. I know the limits and capabilities of what AI can do. It can’t do the physical part of what so many admins do. And what admins specialize in is knowing how to maximize the capabilities of software. Even if AI is implemented in our jobs, we are going to be the ones expected to know how to use it to the fullest potential!
To Sr Project Manager 1: you obviously didn’t read my post. I never said admins shouldn’t get ahead of AI. My point was that so much of admins jobs are hidden/not recognized. There is so little understanding of the value and experience the skilled admin people bring because they make it “look” effortless and don’t bother others with all the little minutiae that may arise to complete a seemingly simple task. But the admins are always the ones expected to be on the front lines of new technology, and AI is no different. Admins will be expected to master it, but there is a physical and mental aspect to the job that goes unrecognized that cannot be replaced by any technology. Skilled admins are masters at problem solving on the spot and I have yet to see a chatbot or AI that can have an in-person conversation and fix a problem in less time than it takes to get to your computer, open the app/program, type in the correct prompts, and execute the result. That may change in time, but there will always be a need for people who can “wear capes”, “wave magic wands”, and make “miracles happen” that can do it better than an AI chatbot. If anything, AI will help make admins jobs more efficient!
I make $20/hr as an admin but it’s part-time. I got the job three weeks ago. I’ve seen admin jobs from $14-$23/hr. I live in central Texas and am late 50s.
Lets just pray for each other!
Yep. South Carolina is terrible for pay. Moved here a year ago. I knew it was lower but some are ridiculously low.
cost of living is also much cheaper.
SC is better for people looking to retire. This is why I have not moved down there yet.
Yup. I am feeling the same thing. I’m close to finishing my degree. And I saw an entry level position for getting into accounting. The position was account receivable and payable, and they were only offering $17-$18 per hour.
Just ignore those jobs. You are worth way more than that pay scale. I've also noticed that many EA positions require social media management. Which wasn't the case five years ago.
And office managers are now required to be bookkeepers or accountants.
I have seen jobs as low as the Fed minimum wage $7.25/hr in PA within 10 miles of Philly. I have also seen employers try to find ways around the $15.60/hr minimum wage in NJ. Claiming small business status when they are a mid-size company with multiple locations. Yet, unless on subsidized housing, no one can live in NJ under $50k/yr comfortably. The sad part is that people will take any job just to have money coming in. The other part is Women in general do not know how to negotiate or advocate for themselves to get the pay raise. They will also just fold easily instead of quitting and finding another job that pays more.
I totally understand your comment. Employees are creating bigger job descriptions for far less money., it’s ridiculous. We might as well work at McDonald’s and get $20 an hour to serve fries.!
Yes, I've been looking for months as well. I'm also in the 50 plus age category so you have to be careful about what you put on your resume. If you show you have 30 plus years of experience is that great or not? Not really bc you are dating yourself! If you show you have several years at one company, that shows dedication, right? Not if it was in the 90s because that shows how old you are. This is so frustrating. Even in the New York area, I'm finding $19 per hour for admin jobs. Seriously? Life Fitness Center is like a resort with restaurant, bar, outdoor pool, etc. I applied for front desk receptionist and they want a Bachelor's Degree for $19 an hour!!! I keep applying even though I want to give up.
