it has been this way ever since i started working as an office manager, secretary and admin assistant. They want you to know everything, and teach everyone else everything and speak several languages and have a degree and and pay you practically nothing as if yea they are doing you a favor. And after all that, you are treated like an alien and you won't be included in anything socially except to plan and manage the social happenings of the office. Its insulting i agree. I've been doing this work since 1970's and nothing has changed. I have worked in other states, in federal gov't and active duty military and now i'm back in NC and nothing has changed re this position.
It's even more so in the military. Since you were there, you know how stubborn they are about old culture. The military also reflects the rest of the world; everyone is so allergic to change.
Yes, and I will add there is age discrimination as well. I am 69, and have to still work. Trying to find even am part time job is hard. I am college educated, and have many years of experience in manufacturing, purchasing, higher education,
But yet, when I do get to interview, I don't pass inspection.
Going through the same issues.
I am ... It's unbelievable that these companies think someone can survive on $15 an hour.
Surprised by what the requirements are to these. Administrative. The pay. The degree. So get decree after collage to barely make over minimum.
Screw the employers you have brains and AI. You just need to keep working when you get home. You are only a month or two from leaving your employer and they don’t need to know use ai to design your business before your employer uses ai to replace you. It going to happen so get ahead of
It
That job obviously either can't handle competitive pay or they don't value administrative assistants enough
You're right! Its terrible! Fast food pays more than that. They want you to do more work for less pay.
$15.00 is maybe an entry level receptionist job salary.. There is no way an experienced Admin will take $15.00 an hr.
I SAW ONE FOR ENTRY LEVEL PART TIME BANK TELLER, BUT THEY WANT 10 YEARS OF RELATED EXPERIENCE AND A BACH?? FOR $15?? UM THEN IT IS NOT AN ENTRY LVL POSITION IF YOU WANT THAT... AND IF YOU WANT THAT I DONT CARE IF ITS PART TIME... YOUR PAYING ME WHAT IM WORTH!! AT LEAST $25+ FOR 30 YEARS NO COLLEGE!! IF I DID HAVE COLLEGE ID ASK FOR $40!!
If you are over 50 and out of work you're screwed! The HR Millenials will not even consider you. Well, frankly, it's their loss! They will get people who are packed and ready to leave for the day at 4:55, even if their is customer emergency and they are needed! There is no value placed on skills, knowledge, a college degree, or experience. The only opportunity that I see is self-employment! Good luck to all of us!
Yesss I agree ! not only is this ridiculous! Its shameful! They want you to practically rush the clinic ! asking for degrees yet pay Pennie’s ! Rents , food utilities are getting higher by the years but the pay rate is less than 10$ an hour ! How can decent people live !! These companies are offering 13$-18$ for administrative managerial positions ! Then if you have over 16 yrs experience you over qualified and they rather hire young kids who will quit in a couple of months and so on not keeping their qualified employee and give them the money they deserve , this goes for hospitals as well ! It’s a shame !!
I completed agree! With today's economy, how in the world can anyone survive off of that, 'I've been looking to relocate to Valdosta,GA but the salary is ridiculous, I could not live off of that salary
Yep, seeing them here in Reno too - they want you to do Administrative Assistant, Accounts Payable AND Transaction Coordinator for $18/hour! 3 jobs for the underpaid price of 1!? Nope....
Yes it's wild I used to make well over $20 and hour for doing less than I do now before Covid. Ever since covid most administrative Assistant jobs I see in my area even requiring an associates are paying $15. I thought i was crazy when I took one for $16 plus bonuses but no one was responding or even opening resumes on postings and 1 job open with 5k applicants. It's truly been a struggle even when you don't want to look like you're "job hopping" because I have always worked long time for my employers up until then. The only thing saving me is how much closer I am to work and my son's school so I guess it makes up for it on car and gas usage somewhat. But rent has doubled. I apply here and there to things that pay more but I have to now weigh the pros and cons because I don't have the savings I used to. It's truly sad.
Yes I have and some employers require an AA or BA degrees plus years of experience for these types of positions with salary of $15- $18 tops. SAD and ABUSIVE
Yes. I was laid off in January making $22 an hour due to lack of business. All the executive assistant jobs pay $15 and hour and I'm 62 but can't afford to retire.
Me as well
Yes!
I am seeing this and depending where you are living that could be a high paying job. In places like South Carolina where min wage is 7.25 15.00 is very good.
It's shameful. You can actually make that hourly wage at fast food franchises.
Try working with a group where everyone but yourself is related! Manuel clearly states no employees are to be in same department as a relative. Supervisor is head of department with 95% or more are family directly under them. After a while, you don't fit in the puzzle and the owners have no clue. So it was bye bye Felicia!
Saw an ad where they were offering an exciting sales job where you could make up to $25k a year!!
