Are you not entitled to an annual holiday period? They can't keep denying you the right to take your contracted time off, especially when so many of the staff seem to be over-using their holiday allotment. Time to ask for a meeting with all Supervisors, Directors and HR and get the annual leave entitlement figured out. If you're burned out and stressed, chances are very good that there are others in the situation as you who just are suffering but keeping quiet.
What a joke! How come you got denied on taking time off for yourself? Aren't you entitled to your PTO? I would not feel comfortable as a director taking a bunch of time off if my employees were being denied their PTO. I would talk to HR.
WHO exactly denied your PTO? The director? It might cause rifts but honestly, next time the Director takes time off and tries to pawn work onto you I’d tell them I’d honestly love to but there’s just not the bandwidth to take on more work right now and that I’d love to take a little time off also but the bandwidth is so tight that is something that has been sacrificed.
That kind of workload is not sustainable, id probably mention that and see if there’s room for discussion on how to improve upon that. I’d always keep your options open also… and next time you need time off just take it. Tell your Director it’s extremely important and you really can’t not take it and we’ll just have to make it work. You don’t have to divulge anything about what it’s for, if they ask just state that’s it’s a personal family matter. You can even apologize that it puts them in a tight spot but there’s nothing you can do. 🤷🏼♀️ what are they going to do, fire you because you took unapproved PTO? They could… but … would you want to work for that kind of company anyways?
I know it's hard but try not to take your director's behavior personally. They're probably just under a lot of stress themselves but that doesn't mean that they have the right to treat you poorly. You gotta start advocating for yourself though.
Really sorry to hear. It sounds like a toxic team and perhaps not somewhere you should continue your employment.
I wouldn’t ASK. Decide when you can take time off, have a plan for all your coverage and present it. There’s no reason for them to say no if everything’s covered or there’s a plan.
