Ask for it. If they don’t pay you, it’s best for both party to walk early in the stage.
If you believe you are worth $110k, nothing’s wrong with asking $110k or $120k. You don’t need to tell them what you are currently making.
The only time I say tone down the expectations is after you talk 10-20 recruiters and you aren’t getting any interest from them after telling them your expectations.
That’s a good number but like the comment above aim for a little more so you have room to negotiate
Don't get suckered into giving a number. Whoever shares a number first in a negotiation, often loses.
Just say you want what's fair given the market and the value you bring. Dodge dodge dodge. If they keep pressing, say 'it sounds like having number is important. Did you have range in mind?' They 100% do, and often they'll share it. If they don't, that's a red flag.
Assuming you could work within the range or close to it, just say, I'm sure we could come to an agreement acceptable to both parties.
DON'T say you could accept something in their range if you can't. Some candidates do this because they just want to get to the next step and figure they'll push the employer to offer beyond their range during negotiations. It works sometimes, but it's also risky. A changing story on salary requirements is worse than no story.
