By making it in the lab. There is no world where sustainably mining diamonds is a thing.
The provenance may be untraceable and less than immaculate but the most eco-friendly way to shop any jewelry is to buy what already exists: go with vintage
Brilliant Earth does a good job of this with diamonds. There are not many brands doing this kind of due dilligence. Using blockchain to prove the chain of custody and transparency about that and point of origin. It’s still extracting something out of the Earth, though, and mining can be harmful no matter what protocols are put in place. A lot of the more sustainable brands don’t use precious gems at all and may just use natural fibers like hemp, upcycle old jewelry to make new pieces, etc.

The most sustainable way is lab grown diamonds. Diamonds can also be mined using ethical practices such as eco-friendly mining techniques and recycling which is also considered sustainable. You would have to research eco-friendly mining techniques if you want to learn more.
