I don’t know if this is the case beyond pharma agencies, but has the primary job of a project manager stop being actual project management?!

When it comes to facilitating project needs for creatives, PMs, in my experience, are failing badly.

So many PMs, so little PMing.

^^ 100%! Why is this happening?

IMO many project managers don’t know how to manage the creative aspects of their projects. They manage project flow, schedules, budgets, meetings. They don’t understand creative process and rarely, if ever, delegate enough time for creative teams to deliver a well-crafted product. Creative output that meets strategy is after all what our clients are buying!

like

Yep and I’m always the bad guy when I question it.

In defense of PM, some agencies turn it into a role for all the things account & finance don’t feel like doing themselves and it leaves no time for true creative project management

like

That’s a fair point to consider.

like

i think the problem is that agencies don't set up PMs to be project managers. PMs are rarely given the tools to succeed BUT to be fair, there are also a lot of BAD PMs out there who are just route pushers. it's rare to find PMs who can critically think and have at least basic understanding of how things work. in the end though, i blame the training and the mentoring of good PMs

like

I have several PMs on my team that I’m convinced lied on their resumes. They struggle with basic PM duties despite claiming to have 5-10 years experience. Many of them don’t understand process on daily things like Fact-Checking and the Editorial process.

One PM decided to assign a weekend w4w read of a 60-page document to an editor before the client had even looked at it. Burned up hours and money, only for the client to come back with tons of changes that made most of the proofed comments irrelevant. I was speechless when I found out.

like

I doubt they're lying.

We have a long-term freelancer who also claimed this sort of experience and has even worked as a director of PM. She's both extremely defensive about all perceived criticism and enough of a moron that she ends up with plenty of fuel for her defensiveness. Eventually she was moved off my account in the hopes that doing away with the complexities of pharma would help her have any idea what was going on.

But as far as anybody can tell, her experience is 100% real! She's just genuinely sucked in all sorts of companies and pay levels, I guess.

Hi,

I am graduating this December and looking for full time roles starting January 2023. I have 2 years of data science work experience before my Masters and I'm currently working part-time as a data science engineer - building data pipelines, dashboards; optimizing, packaging and deploying ML models.

I'm looking for referrals in data science space. I can share my github profile/resume/github page if you need more information. Any help is highly appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

Does really Collaboration work or it's just a myth. Always hearing from Offshore manager is that take more ownership like from offshore we should be working 80% and only 20% will leave for onshore because of time difference..

Is it really a collaboration or simply a cold War between offshore and onshore ownership..
