138k as an ACD in San Francisco - too low?
Hi Fishes
I want to share very bad experience I had at Mastercard
I was given offer by Mastercard in month of Dec The hike was less but looking at brand & other perks I accepted the offer & was looking forward to joining them.I got few offers & I went back to them for sole purpose of renegotiating CTC, to have a industry standard hike. They didn't reverted back for 2-3 days & just dropped a mail that they are revoking initial offer as well on grounds that they didn't like i gave other interview

It's a mostly thankless job that is invisible unless a mistake gets through. I'm inclined to give editors a lot of leeway.
Yes. Disgruntled copywriters and ADs.
Our editors are my favorite people! Also they are in a band.
FCB NY’s editorial department is so freaking patient and kind. I bow down.

Area 23’s editorial department was 🔥 when I worked there
All the editors I know are funny and friendly. But people blame them for any little thing going wrong (stuff that isn’t their fault), so sometimes they’ve gotta be firm and protect themselves.

Ours is damn lovely. Really, really great people. Stars.

I’ve had pretty pleasant editorial teams, so I’m sorry to hear this. What’s the deal with yours?
While I laughed, the reality is that editorial departments are often understaffed. Ludicrously understaffed. (I’ve been an editor for 20 years.) And because so few outside the field know what the job actually entails, assigners often provide far less time than needed and, when told their expectations are not realistic, are unwilling to choose between quality and speed. I regularly have to get assertive (which likely comes off as rude!) when PMs make ridiculous demands. Recently, for instance, one of my PMs sent me a 60-page, text-dense labeling guide for a first edit. Based on content complexity and word count, it was an estimated 15-hour job. She sent it to me just before 4pm for “end of day” (ie, 5pm). On a Friday. When I told her that wasn’t possible, she hit the roof. We’ve had multiple meetings to discuss timing, and I’ve provided every PM with a rubric for estimating turnaround times for various kinds of projects and edits. It’s like screaming into a void, and it starts to feel like straight-up disregard. If an editor strikes you as angry and rude, it could indeed be a personal issue. However, if it’s every editor in the department? Yeah, they’re overworked and undersupported. Try asking them what you can do to make collaboration easier, and then do it.

Thanks, SH1.
Yeah curious to hear how yours are.
I feel like most editors may come off as rude but are just not be as socially vibrant at work as others, in an old school novelist kind of way.
I tend to get along with them because while I am firm when certain things should not be changed, I get that their job is making sure we don’t send out anything that makes us look bad. They tend to be the most open to hashing things out over the phone from my experience, which can help.
But I dunno, I may have just been lucky so far so feel free to stet.
You’re an ACD do something about it

There is one editor on our team like this. Common markups from her include, “what is this?” Or “is this English?” Or “oh look! This word is spelled correctly here - maybe we can fix it below to match!” However she also one of the best if not the best editor we have so I brush it off. I will actually IM my AD her best ones and we have a laugh.
