It’s been almost two years that ive been in this deli job. I don’t only think but I KNOW it’s time I move on from it. This company does not deserve me and neither do I deserve the consequences and dealing with there non sense. I’ve dealt with a lot of non sense in it. Having my one and only write up for moving a trash bin when I was told not to when we were closing, to having to deal with the stress and even at times the symptoms of them bringing in seafood and packaging a bunch of different types of seafood from the seafood department when they KNOW there not suppose to due to me being allergic to which I believe can even be considered a crime ( criminal negligence or reckless endangerment ) and yesterday got threatened to get punched in the face after correcting someone for putting ham that fell on the floor, on the counter where we prepare our food so essentially I got threatened by that individual for what that individual did wrong. And I can’t trust discussing this incident with them because they can’t even handle me moving a trash bin properly. I’ve seen and experienced a lot of things that as a former assistant manager is not acceptable whatsoever. And even at times feeling bad for the other employees due to there acts of oppression over them ( mainly management oppressing the ones that are of lower position then them ). At this point i know these people are evil. For the first time of my life I find it better to be jobless for a time while searching rather then stay and deal and experience more of the non sense. I have many options I can take and I kinda want some feedback. 1. Work this week ( since Im already scheduled ) and use my sick pay time for a “ mental health week “ and then put in my two weeks after taking the little vacation ( Im not going to work those two weeks that I’ll put in ) 2. Look for a transfer to another department within my supermarket while looking for another job ( maybe not be possible due to other departments being full ) 3. Wait for a job to hire me in order to move on of course which unfortunately I have been doing for weeks already and to no success ( only applied to 3 jobs though ) or 4. Just quit and keep applying till I get hired while I take the time off to just relax and recover ( maybe have a few months worth of money saved for bills )
A lot to unpack there, but among everything, you had one thing that stuck out for me... it sounds like you have a seafood allergy and are working at a place that has seafood. That's your simple "out" for your current and future employers. You don't have to assign blame, just state it as fact. "Gosh, thought I could deal with it when I took the job, but after working here, I realized it wasn't working out." That gives you zero exit drama at your soon-to-be past place and zero baggage at the new place. I'd absolutely refer to the current place, because being presently employed is better than having a blank in your work history. Using the seafood factor as your reason for breaking is a great way to end discussion and avoid any temptation to bring up any negative drama, and to purge yourself of seafood and any toxic negativity from the old place before starting clean with your new team.
Ugh it sounds like you've put up with way too much already. Since you have a few months of savings, I think I'd go for option 1. It allows you a little time to keep looking for jobs full-force while bringing in a little money. And it leaves you on good relations should you ever need to use this company as a reference.
No I don’t really have savings lol if I did I would’ve left a long time ago tbh. And I will not be using this job as a reference tbh. Like ever
