Got a random email from a supposed Amazon recruiter for a SDE position (which is not at all a fit). The email is amazon.com domain and there are no red flags in the body but it doesn't feel like an Amazon recruiter due to the tacky signature, etc. Has anyone seen this kind of cold-calling from FAANG recruiter?

Your boss’ boss’ boss gets told how many people need to be cut and then it’s a popularity contest.
Layoffs only happen during dire situations. Because it means getting rid of the biggest value the company has. If it’s just an economic downturn then consulting agencies try to retain their workers by eliminating bonuses and cutting PPMD pay. Our industry is no where close to any of this so layoffs aren’t even something you should worry about
EY is already planning layoffs on certain advisory teams, but we’re also looking at Everest…

It’s often made from a very high level so you lose a certain amount of granularity.
Possible considerations:
Below a certain threshold on most recent performance review.
Tenure (less than x years)
Member of a redundant team
I hope Meta will start with rationalizing investments in horizons and refocusing on existing products that are making money
Amazon got rid of fabric and cares for example. They are also getting rid of units that are not as profitable or have a decent business case to be profitable. They then will start with low performers at those teams and make their way. If it is very severe, then your performance won’t matter.
I imagine it starts with classifying whether that department supports Table Stakes, Lights-On, differentiated services, or ‘Other’ services.
Table stakes and lights on won’t get shut down, but they’ll be asked to take a haircut. (Eg Accounting, Finance, HR, Legal, etc).
Determining what’s a differentiated service (ie part of core service) vs other is tough and high stakes. Anything landing in Other is a department that gets shut down entirely
