I had this same thought at my ophthalmologist appointment last week lol I could give out contacts or glasses and own a practice seems pretty chill
About 600 residency spots/year
I can legit use minoxidil
Not really. Most consultants are incapable of doing any meaningful work. So they chose to make slides
Treating skin issues would make me gag
Dermatology is one of the toughest specialities to get into.
Chirp isn’t a medical degree (MD); it’s physical therapy doctor. Not the same
Never too late to go back to school
Another factor is that 7 to 8 years in medical school you would be net negative while consulting you would be earning money for the 7 to 8 years. You will technically be behind 14 to 16 years when you graduate.
Most doctors I know do not recommend it as a career choice overall
Hospital culture & strict hierarchies, on call, long training time, high cost of education, lots of exams until you finish residency
I agree way more chill lifestyle. All the doctors I know work 30 hours, are home by 3-4 pm and are making bank. Consulting is not worth it
Depends. Some physicians are over worked, 40-60 patients a day. Some not as much.
Anything business related or financial planning
Consulting is fun. People tell you what they want you to say, you say it (with PowerPoint), and they pay you lots of money. The only way you get fired is if you tell them unpleasant truths they did not ask you to report. Sadly, Dermatologists have the same problem. People want a cream or a pill. Tell them "stay out of the sun", or "change your diet and exercise," and they change doctors, not behavior.
