I was in the final stages of an interview with Microsoft two weeks ago, in partner marketing. Then the recruiter told me they were putting the hiring process on hold to assess the need for the role. Well, then we heard about Microsoft layoffs last week. Seems like most were in Xbox and Project Alpha but there’s not a lot of information out there. Should I hold out any hope that I’m going to get this job? Any insights on how much these layoffs have impacted the marketing org and/or new hiring?

Have an honest chat with your manager and convey your POV. Keep the relationship with yo ur manager and just move on. There’s real strength in knowing where to stop, and understanding that what your peers think won’t matter that much
I’m terrified 🥴 but will have to get the guts to do this respectfully

Is the industry job what you would leave MBB for? If so, no. If not, possibly.
If you don’t like your role I’d switch. You can become a bit more pigeonholed now that you have a few YOE + MBA.
I’d have the tough conversation with your manager
Now is the perfect time to leave while still in probation to be honest
It depends...
Going to MBB could put you a level or two higher in a couple of years (with more money in the bank) than staying industry, effectively accelerating your career trajectory - but it comes at a cost. The tradeoff will be working extreme hours with high stress. If you're up for it then it's the best play, but it isn't for everyone.
I also agree with being open with your new manager and letting them know that you have a passion for consulting and really appreciate the opportunity they gave you.
Just be prepared for the workload and higher expectations on you. It will be highly dependent on the case you’re staffed in and the people you work with, but expect intense hours and work. I very much enjoy the experience here, but beware it’s not for everyone
