I got passed over for Partner because I didn't play enough golf with the rainmakers. My billables were the highest in the group and my client feedback was glowing, but apparently, I’m not part of the culture because I spent my weekends with my kids instead of at the country club. It’s a bitter pill to swallow. Should I stay and try to fit in next year, or is this a sign that I’ll never be part of the inner circle?

I don't know what the objectively "correct" answer is, but based on this small bit it sounds like your priorities and the firms don't align. Change firms, not yourself.

I recently had a specialist partner send me a fairly nasty email after I (a transactional first year) was told to ask them to review something ASAP that had clearly been on my partner’s radar for over a week. Why am I taking the (honestly justified) blame for this? Surely it should be obvious that I’m just the messenger here.

I’m my partners only associate and I went on parental leave two weeks ago. I feel horrible for leaving him to handle our cases alone, but am trying to focus on my wife and new baby. Thoughts on sending out assignments over the weekend? I work a lot on weekends, but I don’t expect associates too. But, because I work on weekends, I often will send out assignments by email with a clear indication in subject line and body that it does not need to be completed or worked on over the weekend. Hi new here. Idk what my value is and if I’m getting paid an amount that reflects my hard work. I am a paralegal for a small law firm (family and immigration) w only 1 attorney. I have about 20 files or more in my rotation at a time. I work on various types of cases at once. Some are simple, others are extensive. I feel like it’s very unstructured and one of the managers micromanages. It’s like every man for himself. Take home pay is $50k. I am working on my bachelors deg. Do I get paid enough?
