Here is my advice as a freelancer often between projects: set aside a certain amount of time each day devoted to your job search. Then also set aside time for mental health: hobbies, catching up with friends, exercising, walks, museums (whatever you enjoy). You will be much happier and healthy and more productive in your job search than if you are just panicking all day every day.
Having been there, this is the way.
Do not fall into the trap of feeling guilty for taking time each day to exercise, go to the movies, see friends, etc. In fact, demand this of yourself. The worst thing you can do is sulk at home after the day’s job search is complete. Get out. Enjoy the freedom. It won’t last.
Start your own thing. There’s never been a better time.
This!
Get going now.
Places that are available will look to secure now before the new year.
As tough as it is being let go, don’t pause during this crucial moment before decision makers head off for the break. It takes a lot longer than people think.
Do the usual - old colleagues, recruiters, live posts and cold outreach.
Consider freelancing and setting everything up in the mean time / in the background.
Don’t be too picky on finding THE best job and potentially at a slightly lower salary. You can always move to the next place. I was too proud and regretted it after a few months went by and eating into savings.
Good luck. Horrible time for places to do this.
A1: LinkedIn, believe it or not. Posting semi-regularly with some kind of original thought (ie, not just what your company comms team asked you to post when sharing out the latest press), reacting to friends’ posts, reaching out to actual people just to see what they’re up to.
Beyond that, emailing, face time with people, etc. It sounds like a lot at first, but when I had let my momentum freeze, I wasn’t doing *anything* like that.
I got *three gigs* this year (all temporary, unfortunately) just because I noticed my LI notifications were telling me that someone from Company X checked out my profile three times over two weeks or so. When I searched people I knew at that company, there was one person who was a first degree connection. I knew her from a previous job.
I messaged her asking if it had been her, she said she had seen some of my posts and was wondering what I was up to. That led to three different gigs!
Each gig ended up in a layoff or a failure to extend through no fault of my own, unfortunately, but she made those connections and got me considered in the first place.
Fill up your time! I started a website & blog about my passions as well as a Pinterest. I went to a fundraising party last night. I do Pilates in the day or sometimes ballet. It’s holiday time so many roles might not reply until January. I’m also starting a YouTube channel as well as meet others weekly for happy hour. Every time, I’m busy. I come home to recruiters emailing & calling. Stay busy & good luck 🍀
Hell yeah

Oh no! Eversana had layoffs last week? I’m sorry to hear it and hope you land somewhere good quickly. I’ve been interviewing at Eversana. Maybe I should rethink that?
I would. There is rarely a week without layoffs anymore.
