I have an interview for an in house position (only attorney) at a small non-profit focused on conservation easements. I am a transactional associate at a mid sized law firm. The prospect of freedom from the billable hour and contributing to meaningful work are the draws. The cons are that while the salary at the non-profit would only be slightly less than what I am making now, pay increases and opportunities for advancement will be much less than where I am now. 740 GMAT, 3.5 GPA at a top 30 US undergrad. I’m a gay white male applying to several M7s… wondering if it is worthwhile to apply to Wharton and Booth? I feel like my story is average (manager at Accenture), and I’m eyeing schools where I would be competitive for scholarship.

I know that people say it’s all about story, but with a certain gpa/gmat score is there a “floor” that you’re safe on? For example would someone with 4.0/780 (not me) be pretty much assured at least 1 M7? Or is there a reasonable chance that all M7s will reject them? Or is their floor just lower (T15 for example)?
