I have a business idea that is going to be profitable but as an African American woman I feel very afraid to go and request business funding because most are turned down. I have a 722 credit score.

How can I better prepare for funding when I approach the SBA or a bank. I’m scared. I

It depends on where you live, but there are some resources that are specifically for African-American small business owners. Loans, grants, counseling programs, funding, mentorship. My city has an entire network just for black-owned businesses. I would start there and see what you have available to you! Google "(your city) African American small business resources" and see what you can find!

If you believe everything you read… sounds like you haven’t even tried. Don’t allow other people’s failures to dictate yours.

Get coaching on the presentation of your business (investor deck) - that’s the part that most people (regardless of gender or ethnicity) tend to fall short on.

Really know your market. If you’re pitching for funding, you have to give someone else the security they will be making their money back. So time lines and the how. How and when are you making their money back. This is what your pitching.

I wouldn’t get in the business with that scared attitude. Business is war and you need to be a warrior to win. Unless you have some genius idea, no doubt you’re going to have lots of competition and it’s a dog-eat-dog, brutal world out there.

like

I think you missed the entire point. Totally not afraid of competition and understand that business requires the highest level of grit that you can ever think of.

#1 stop labeling yourself and start believing in your idea.

#2 Don't ask people about how to get started who haven't done it. Listening to people who will never be in your shoes will cause you to fail.

#3 Do your research about your community and banking in your area. There are more opportunities out there than you think.

SBA loans are better and less expensive to payoff dem predatory bank loans high interest stay away from banks!

If funding is an issue with a bank, you can see if your local community will fund you. Kickstarter is also an option if you are offering a product.

Why not just get an ANONYMOUS LLC/your most compatible business entity {for whatever type of business you're in} ?!? & Also, you can get a BUSINESS PARTNER (who it would be HARD to REJECT)...

Of course you can. Register it to a different state like for instance Delaware, Wyoming etc.. read about there business laws to get a better understanding.

Need some timely offer advice. Currently at a Pre-IPO tech company (IPO in next 18 months extremely likely) & evaluating what it would take to jump to a seed-stage startup prior to offer negotiations.

Pre-IPO tech, BizOps:
+ Cash comp: $250K
+ Equity: $130K/year at current internal valuation

Seed-stage, Chief of Staff:
+ Currently valued at $100M after $12M in financing

This is for a BizOps role & they have a team of 20-30. What cash + equity % would make sense to switch over for?

Really confused as to whether to incorporate my NY- based makeup startup as an LLC or an S-corp? Not based in NYC if that matters and no revenue yet. Should I be looking into Delaware at all (specifically a Delaware C-Corp) if I do plan on raising capital at some point down the line? Also - for any FDA lawyers out there, what is the problem with developing makeup (specifically foundations) with SPF? I've heard it's "heavily regulated." What do I need to be aware of? Thanks in advance !!
