I have a friend in her 20s who has only worked in hospitality so far. She’s currently working at a restaurant, and whenever she asks me for advice about changing careers, I honestly feel stuck because I don’t have much experience outside retail myself. I usually tell her to consider going back to school for nursing or something in the medical field since she has a bit of background there, but I’m not sure if I’m giving her the right advice.

What would you recommend to someone in her situation?

Medical is a good choice. Lots of options, and some money to be made.

The first question is "what do you like?" We spend 40+ hours a week doing this for the next 40 years, that's too long to be miserable, That will give her a place to start.

And yes, many of us that have been doing retail for a long time find some aspects enjoyable (especially if in a "niche" area, like books, music, clothing, etc) here.

Thats what I ask her all the time that what she likes and interested in. She has really mixed feelings about a lot of things or so can say she has no idea what she likes. Well, she has to decide soon.

Advice will vary based on the person. Find something you can get a job in, and you don’t hate.

That is very true. What is perfect for one person is terrible for another. A lot of times, you have to get in and do the job before you even know yourself.

i had my canadian pr last year but didn’t do the landing since covid hit. the deadline passed of course and the immigration office reached out to check if i’m still interested and if so i should re-do a medical. assuming my medical goes through and my pr is processed and accepted again, does anyone know if landing is still a thing? my original plan was to do a landing and move after 2 years. is this still possible or does canada basically want you to move in a year or so after pr is granted?

[query] Is it a good idea to say a firm No due to medical reasons to a new night shift project I'm hired in?Accenture

I recently got a night shift project (2 days ago) that requires me to work from 10:30pm till 7:30am

I'm not comfortable with these timings and I'm thinking to ask my manager to put me on Bench (Due to medical reasons that involve mental health)

Is it a nice idea to say a firm No to a new project I'm hardlocked into, due to night shifts?

I know it's hard to account for every type of disability but we can at least start with the most common ones.
