If you are thinking of starting a law practice or growing one with little or no capital, you need to get the book, “Starting & Growing a Law Practice without Breaking the Bank.
It was written based on personal experience and research. I started my practice 11 years ago in the middle of the 2008/2009 recession with about $500 and I have grown the practice significantly over the years using affordable and available resources.
I also coach solo practitioners and small firm attorneys. https://www.amazon.com/Starting-Growing-Practice-Without-Breaking/dp/1099523303

Advice needed - boyfriend has almost 3.5 years of finance experience at a bank. Interviewed for PwC valuation senior associate and now recruiter says they want to hire him at “experienced associate” because he has no valuation experience. Is this too big of a step backwards in career? Should he push back and see if it gets him anywhere? If he does accept Associate, is it reasonable to ask for written, definitive timeline (1 year?) for promo to Senior upon meeting standards? Help!

Absolutely most accounting graduates do not go to B4
Right now; the job market is not good for Finance professionals of any kind. There are more than 80+ candidates for every position. I would say "most do not" based on the last two years of the job market.
Most accounting students try for big 4, but most do not get in
Big 4 recruiting definitely gets a lot of attention, but it’s not the norm for most grads. I'd say a decent number aim for it, but only a small percentage land those offers. The rest find solid paths elsewhere.
And it seems like it's much easier to get into Big 4 after a year somewhere else rather than right out of school.
Sort of depends on the labor market, right now that probably isn't true with low resignations and a frozen job market. Other years that is absolutely true.
Big 4 has their target schools where they spend a lot of their time. And do branch out to others, but overall agreed with above- not all go to big 4
