What do you teach now? Kindergarten is a very rewarding job. They come in so dependent and leave so independent. It's amazing to see the growth. I will tell you that you can't assume they know how to do things. You have to teach everything! The first two weeks I teach procedure after procedure after procedure and then continue to teach procedures for the next 174 days. They love hugs and telling very long stories that have no beginning, middle or end. 😜 With all of that being said, I absolutely love it!
I taught 1st and kinder and I gotta say, kinder is a beast of its own. It takes a special person to teach kindergarten. I’m going back to first grade in August. With kinder, the kids are so dependent, I can never leave them to do their work independently. Watching the kids grow is very rewarding. The beginning of the year is like pulling teeth but towards the end, their measured learning takes off very quickly. Some perks of teaching kindergarten in my school district is NO GRADES, just 1s or 2s. Also, when you teach kinder everyone in the building thinks about you first when accommodating schedules, since kinder kids take the longest to round up. One downfall of kinder is that you get no warnings (pinks and blues) about the students you get. You’re not only introducing students to school (many for the first time), but you’re also testing the waters when it comes to behaviors or learning disabilities.
100% agree!!!
