I have an interview with a "biglaw" firm tomorrow afternoon-- any last minute tips or advice from those who work in big firms?

I'm a 6th year associate and have never worked at a firm with more than 5 other attorneys. The interview is going to be with a panel of "at least" three partners and the pressure is on.

It’s going to be mostly about fit, so be yourself and try to convey that you’re a normal human being that they can spend 50+ hours a week with. You’ve worked at a small firm so you probably have great hands on experience. Highlight the most complex and successful cases/deals you’ve worked on.

Be able to articulate why you want to work at their firm! I’ve interviewed people who cannot respond to this well. Review their website and recent news articles. Be generally familiar with their culture and values at least as stated publicly. Good luck!

Might be obvious... From my one big law interview experience (got the job, didn’t take it): talk about yourself as an entrepreneur, as a small business owner who is joining other small business owners and who has a vision for how to make money for everyone

Just curious: how many resource managers recruit for freelancers as part time of their job? If not, who does the recruiting for you? Internal recruiters? Outside staffing agencies?

Toronto banks: remote or not? They sometimes post jobs where it doesn’t say it’s remote, but no branch/ location/address either. Then you get an interview and they tell you it’s remote/hybrid(1-2-3days, take your pick)/on-site. So, if you work at TD, Scotia, RBC, could you let everybody know in the comments what’s the deal for each? Are you remote, on-site, hybrid of some sort?

Have a big interview tomorrow. The question I dread the most is about why you’re looking for a new job. The honest answer is that there isn’t enough work to go around at my agency and I want to get ahead of the inevitable layoffs. What’s the best way to tell them this? Do I just make something else up entirely?

Hi everyone. I'm pretty early in my career (just over 1 YOE) & not really enjoying my current role as a Consultant/Developer because of the type of projects I get combined with some mobility issues. However, I'm really interested in technical program management or project management and I'm looking for any advice on how to get there bc I've been applying, but can't even seem to get a call back.

(Also would really appreciate some likes on this post to get my 11 likes out of the way 😀)

Can someone point me to some material where I can read about profit sharing vs 401k. I get the concept, but I am trying to understand is 10% profit sharing vested over 5 years better than an employee 401k match of 6%?

From my understanding 10% PS is better because it’s just a standard 10% on top of whatever I contribute though it takes 5 years to vest. Does this mean if I leave before 5 years I don’t get any of it?

Anyone ever have experience negotiating a new offer to include unvested 401k match and stock grants from your current employer? I hate leaving money on the table but there are some good roles out there. I’m not fully vested in my current 401k yet and my stock grants haven’t matured yet either. This would be at a global director level.

How do you get caught up (or even ahead) when you’re always behind? Assume that all things that can be offloaded have been offloaded. I cannot take one more all nighter trying to get a motion drafted two days before the deadline because I couldn’t get to it earlier.
