In this industry it’s not what you know, it’s WHO you know. LinkedIn is a great way to network. If you find a company you really want to be a part of, look up people that work there, and reach out. Let them know you research the companies core values and they align, ask for a few minutes of there time to ask questions like the companies morale what do they love about it and even share your resume and ask do they think it would be worth the application. There are so many qualified educated people looking for a job, interviews are more based on personality and if you’re easy to work with and likable! Watch some YouTube videos on interviews and best practices. Best wishes to you, good luck!
One might find it helpful to paraphrase: it is not about who you know, but how you know who you know. Stand apart and be outstanding. Don't suffer your life as a commodity.
I completely understand how this feels, because I nearly went through the same thing. It felt like I was doing over 20 applications a day, yet still just getting countless rejections.
What I did to help myself from the point of a breakdown was take a few days to a week of a break. Just do anything to get your mind off of job hunting (a lot easier if you currently have a job, but if not, immerse yourself in a hobby for up to a week). Then go back into it HARD, reach out to recruiters where you can, respond to every single message on LinkedIn letting them know of your current situation.
Once I did that, it took me one week. Within that one week, I had scheduled 17 interviews within the following 3 weeks, and received 5 job offers. It’s definitely possible, just sometimes have to take a step back to be able to move forward.
Absolutely! I saw there were some recruiting companies reaching out to me via LinkedIn, so it gave me the idea to look into recruiting companies. There I just reached out to anyone who had their profile and contact information visible to see if they could route me to the correct people at their company for recruiting services. Most were VERY friendly and open to helping. I did receive some negative feedback from some of them, but honestly, not worth really mentioning.
I have had many experiences with different recruiters. Some varying all the way from being ghosted by them after being a final candidate on a 5th round interview, to having one recruiter go from reaching out to me, to contacting my references within the day and having a job offer within 2 weeks.
Some of the larger recruiting companies really are terrible (there’s a large one in my area that does a lot, but I’ve had the most ghosting experiences with them)
Don't be discouraged. All good things in life require patience.
It's so easy to get discouraged when you're applying all day every day, but do everything in your power to keep adjusting the CV, keep applying... As someone who has experienced "the breakdown," I can say, it got me 0% closer to my end goal. Are you reaching out to companies directly and sending follow ups or just submitting the CVs and playing the waiting game?
I get it. The constant rejections really start to take a mental toll. There's really no way through it but to continue playing the numbers game and submitting as many applications as you possibly can. Working with a recruiter might help too, as could utilizing a resume writing service if you haven't already. Keep your head up as best you can, something good has to come your way soon.
Do you know anyone who can refer you in? If not, look for contacts on LinkedIn who currently work where you want to work. Network with them. Ask questions. Then ask if they would be willing to refer you or to pass your resume to a hiring manager. AI auto rejects so many applications, it can really come down to who you know.
I don’t know if people still work with recruiters but that would be my second recommendation. You need a human being with a foot in the door.
I'm so sorry to hear that :( My office is actually hiring and you can do remote work as well! It's a good source of income, and we'll provide all the training you need. Let me know if you're interested, and I can provide you with more information!
Hi, thanks for your encouragement for the poster, I too have been on the application run for months now and all I get are rejections and no responses. I have a degree in Business and been a business analyst for over 6 years, but this dip is sooo depressing. Would love if you still have those openings though?
It's being offshored. You are fighting against someone in India doing it for 10% of what they would pay you.
I had the same issue when I first relocated to this area last year. I applied for hundreds of jobs. I landed a job in a retail store (not in-line with my career objective), very low paying job and the drama and pettiness there made me hate life everyday…could not wait to find something better! Was stuck there for 7 months and was absolutely miserable but needed to ‘try’ to pay my bills with the menial pay I was receiving. They worked me to death. Worse job I ever had. But I made the best of it as much as I could. Applied myself 120%. Got several recognition awards from management and other coworkers and used that to demonstrate the type of employee I am. I FINALLY scored another corporate job. I went from applying for hundreds of jobs and receiving rejection after rejection to multiple job offers! 🙌 Hang in there! The break thru happens! I wish you the best of luck!
in today’s job market, don’t blame yourself
Apply to 10 jobs each day
Everything is temporary. It’s not you, it’s a tough job market. Try to do something that provides an outlet for an hour every single day, perhaps that’s a puzzle, bird watching, baking or playing your favorite sport. Find a way to make some joy for yourself daily. This time in your life will pass soon enough.
Totally get how you feel, no worries though just have patience it will work out. If you see this message reach out to me on LinkedIn You can see my name above this comment I think I can be some help.
There is a saying: "One must suffer a breakdown before you achieve a breakthrough." Your credentials are less important than finding the right match of a timely opportunity, application of the right skills or learning ability, and the right entry point. Stop covering the world with applications. Go to a trusted hiring level peer to secure you the right kind of meeting.
I recommend taking a step back to take a deep breath. Take a week or two and just think of anything else, then go back in with a fresh mind. Sometimes all you need is a to take a look at it from a different angle and approach
