I’ve put myself up for L4 promo this cycle. Assuming I get it, what would be the best next steps to optimize for long-term growth/TC?
My understanding is that L5->L6 is extremely painful at Google. It may be easier to leave for a handful of years and gain managerial experience before returning.
L4->L5 is less challenging; however, I’m under the impression I can do this quicker at another company (if I leave after being freshly promo’d) AND get higher TC.

Bain & Company Hello, I received an offer as a Senior Practice Manager at Bain. The profit sharing range is 0-12% in the offer letter. Is it typical to receive the midpoint (6%)? Also, what do the annual salary increases typically look like? Any insights are much appreciated. Bain & Company Boston Consulting Group McKinsey & Company

Exactly what you said here! You deserve it! I like to plant the seed in my bosses ears before my review so they can budget for it, but even if you don’t do that, you come with a list of reasons and say you’d like to be considered for a promotion in order to maintain the level of work you’re already doing. Remember to aim for a 10-20% pay bump. Go get it!

Asking for a raise and a permanent promotion to director requires preparation and confidence. Start by documenting your achievements, outlining how you've added value to the company, and researching salary ranges for similar roles in your industry. Schedule a meeting with your manager to discuss your contributions and express your interest in a permanent promotion, backed by evidence of your accomplishments. Be prepared to negotiate and highlight how your skills align with the responsibilities of a director role.
