Or is it more about the way you negotiate salary than being American?
You’re hesitant to demand more, and are unwaveringly loyal despite being underpaid. I figured out the problem: you’re a woman
It’s because you aren’t pushing or asking for it.
Can you take your client with you)
If not... Get an offer from another (non WPP) agency and then make this one pay you the same or leave.
WPP is notorious. If my recruiter didn’t push hard and the agency wasn’t desperate, I wouldn’t have gotten my asking price.
They are not my sponsors and therefore there is no work visa.
This does seem low. Did you negotiate at all when the job offer came through? They won’t pay you any differently if you’re from outside the US, unless visa sponsorship is written into your contract. The agency will pay you whatever they can get away with.
It’s difficult to negotiate once you’re already in the job unless you have another offer.
Thank you AD1 and SCW - your insights def helped. I need to think of this strategically and not let my emotions get in the way. I like them and I love my account but it’s unfair to me.
Thanks guys!
No it’s because you work for WPP. If it makes you feel better I’m making less as a VP AD.
I feel like sometimes loyalty has a negative correlation with the pay unfortunately. You gotta do what’s best for yourself... you can always come back after leaving for a big jump hehe
Work visa is like $5k and built into the hiring budget for a lot of bigger companies. you should be making up to 20k more if you’re at senior level (12 years exp should put you there). If you really feel loyal and don’t want to leave at least get them to promote you to Sr AD. That will open you up to getting paid more because you’ll be in a different salary bracket.
100K in Portland is standard for an AD. You’re definitely getting screwed.
Y’all gotta read the comments- OP isn’t being sponsored. OP that’s low for NYC
I work for a WPP agency in LA and get paid $150k.
@OP it’s okay, at least you know now and can make a lot more next time 💪
What city?
New York.
@Elephant, salary was non negotiable. They gave me a job when I needed one so I took what I had. @senior copywriter, I can’t take the client with me, even if I could I would never do that to the agency, they made up a position for me just to help me get a job. They have my loyalty and I don’t want to leave, I only wanted to know if the 100k is the average for an AD position in NY.
Seems low but your work visa is probably expensive
Hey OP you’re definitely underpaid for AD. Push for more!
I think it seems on par for AMD. Guess I am underpaid also then
