Faced this weird behaviour from Optum recently. Gave interview for Data Scientist position. HR said feedback is positive. Asked for documents. It's been month now since I have shared the documents. I have no update on the offer. Today I called HR, she called me back saying the position is on hold due to recalibration in team, She has shared interview feedbacks to other teams and will get back to me in couple of days. I am clueless now. My last working day is approaching (In a month). Any Help??

Hi all, recently in touch by Spotify recruiter for a Sec Engineer position for remote EU and was told that range was 60-80 out of base salary and equity. Had 2 years of security experience out of my 4 years. Was also told that there is no bonus scheme or no sign in bonus 😕 Not sure how I feel about this tbh.
What do you think?

40 applications isnt nearly enough to yield results in this economy
I recently graduated, so I’m starting from zero and trying to build experience from the ground up. Right now, I’m applying mainly to entry-level positions because that matches my current experience level. I can’t realistically compete for senior-level roles when those positions already attract hundreds of experienced candidates with years in the industry. Also, I don’t think this is purely a numbers game. Someone can apply to 100 jobs a day and still only hear back from 1% of them. That alone proves the issue is not just about volume. The real problem is that the hiring process has become oversaturated, heavily automated, and unrealistic for many entry-level applicants. Sending more applications does not automatically create more opportunities when thousands of people are competing for the same role and companies are filtering candidates through ATS systems before a human even sees them. The only point I agree with is that layoffs have made the market far more competitive because now you have experienced workers competing alongside recent graduates and other job seekers. But dismissing someone’s experience based only on how many applications they send out misses the bigger picture of how broken and oversaturated the hiring process has become.

You need to be submitting 40 applications a week.

Like I said I don't disagree with you but that's the way it is in the current job climate. You seem to be seeking some kind of reform in the hiring process and that's not going to happen. You either play along or sit home and collect food stamps.
Took me 2yrs and over 2000 applications to land my first role in Canada. This job market is not for the faint hearted.
It shows me that the number of applications I have submitted so far is still small compared to how competitive the market has become. I have even started applying to opportunities in the United States to expand my chances. That is one of the main reasons I made this post, because after months of applying it started to feel like nothing was happening despite the effort.

I agree it should be human centered, but then we’d have to make applications human center. I do feel bad for recruiters who have to filter out thousands of applications coming from all over the world, including people who weren’t even entitled to work in the country that is hiring. I have no idea what the solution is, but both employers and applicants are really going through it.
You’re right, but I think part of the problem is the ATS-focused hiring system itself. Companies should focus more on the basic requirements of the role instead of filtering people out so aggressively through automated systems. Every day employers say they can’t find workers, yet many qualified people are being rejected simply because they don’t have years of experience or the “perfect” resume format. I also think recruiters and people who tell applicants to “stop complaining and just apply” overlook how frustrating the process has become.
A simple solution could be what happened to me the other day: they interviewed every candidate and actually took the time to talk about their experience and skills. That approach feels far more human and gives people a fair opportunity beyond what is written on a resume.
But it is a numbers game in this job market. You subconsciously know this which is why your post is about how many applications you’ve submitted. More applications is not about increasing opportunities - it’s to increase the odds. Who’s likely to get a job - the person who applied to 3 jobs a month or the person who applies to 30 in a month? This isn’t to dismiss your experience. If I tell someone who wants to be a professional athlete that practicing 3 times a week isn’t enough when the competition is practicing 3 times a day, it’s to give them a reality check of what they’re up against.
