I have been placed on PIP recently, but was looking at leaving the company already before this change happened. If my new employers asks for a refrence from current employer, will they mention that I was on PIP before I left (Assume no further action apart from them mentioning to me that I will be going on PIP has been taken, so no findings or official consequences have taken place)

Employers that do not think you are a good fit are generally happy if you find something else and will support you in that move.

Hi I am so sorry I was recently place on a a PIP and they let me go anyway and now I’m on unemployment if you get a job before than I will said go ahead and quit but if not I would suggest stay until the let you go you can still get unemployment as long as it not a misconduct I would suggest review it and write a rebuttal letter to clarify anything it will help just do your job come in on time and go over the employee handbook it will help. Don't worry about references. Just say people at your old company think very highly of you and would love to vouch for you. And make up some reason why love your old job but the new one your applying for makes way more sense and you realize that's where you want your career to be heading .

Just be honest. I’ve hired people who have been on PIP before and they all have excellent additions. You don’t have to tell the interviewer that you were on PIP, but don’t fret if asked. You can always state why you believe you were placed on PIP and what you learned from being on PIP.

Most employers/hiring managers know that some people who go on PIP stem from poor/inadequate management.

I’ve gone through the motion many times. There has been exactly 0 times where my prospective employer asked for a reference from my current employer. That would be weird. It would also out you before you’ve even accepted a position. They’ll verify your employment, but with large organizations, that’s basically an automated process. You can usually also indicate NOT to contact your current employer. My guess is they do that verification later.

They generally won’t ask for a formal reference, but the world is small and people talk. Don’t lie, but you don’t have to offer anything up either. Good luck and try to learn from the experience.

Is there a definitive guide to cost of living? The obvious cost of living centers (SF, NYC, LA etc.) get covered a lot, but I’m wondering where my city falls. It’s a modest Midwest city with ~100k residents but is a relatively touristy spot. It often feels like a MCOL area but I’m not sure how to adequately judge that, and it would be helpful to know when comparing salaries and the like.
