I have been working in Surgical areas ( days stay, med/surg ward, plastic surgery) for majority of my nursing career. Since I moved here in NZ I started working in aged care for 3 years now. But I wanted to return to the area I am passionate about, but I find it hard to find an opportunity. Is there anyone here who was hired or have hired someone who and gave them chance to work on their area of expertise despite the gap?

Has anyone left healthcare and is now really happy? I’m an MSN, RN with 12 years hospital experience. I’m burned out and tired of making crap pay. I have an opportunity outside of healthcare that would pay more and challenge me in new ways that I haven’t experienced before. It’s a total shift that would really heal my work-life balance, job satisfaction and budget. My only fear is that I would not be using the license and degree that I worked so hard for. I currently work as a optician, referral coordinator and optometry technician. Busting my butt off wearing all 3 hats and I get paid $20 an hour… I don’t think this is a fare wage considering I’m doing the job of 3 people. I want to negotiate a higher wage any tips of what I should ask for?
