I added Premium some years ago when I was in job seeker mode, and I’ve kept it ever since - not just for InMail, but also to help me research potential bosses, colleagues, clients, etc. it’s been very useful for me and for helping out friends. Suggest trying it for a year.
Ok, thank you so much for your reply. It was thoughtful and helpful, as that is what I am looking to use it for, especially as I am looking in a new city. But I haven't found it super useful in the past. So, I thought I'd check with others if they found it helpful. :)

InMail is semi useless. It lets you send messages to anyone but often places those messages in a secondary inbox that most people don’t check.
I have it for “who viewed my profile” reasons since I’m a freelancer so extra stalking can be good, plus I can write it off as a business expense. I can’t definitively say if it’s worth it - it depends on what you’re after - but I’ll say it’s not a no brainer at $40/mo

InMail has actually cost me dialogue with recruiters as a freelancer b/c I message them thinking they’ll definitely get it but they miss it entirely. I might advise staying non premium. Sending connection requests, then once they’re a connection, grab their email address from their contact info and email them directly with more context on why you wanted to chat
Sorry it eas meant to say inmail not email
