Yes. Left the firm recently at M for 480k TC at a big tech. Very doable.
D4: that is amazing jump. Congrats! Which company if you don’t mind?
I left as C that was about to be promoted to M. Got 266K TC, but ended up being higher. Expecting 300K this year. Left to another larger public Silicon Valley tech company. Better offer than Google. I think leaving as SM should easily get you 400 TC. I’d think closer to 500 if you do FAANG.
I was a Tech Consultant with specialization in Cloud and DevOps. Not really hands on but deep knowledge in the areas and the was able to architect solutions. I moved to a specialist role on the sales side in big tech. I feel as if consulting skills are many times not as transferable. I’ve told friends of mine to work on some more hard skills in the space they’re interested in to try to get a foot in the door. To be honest you guys are 1 out of thousands of consultants trying to break into tech. Gotta figure out a good route and a way to distinguish yourself from generalists.
Not sure, but I guess the question is: Does Google pay well compared to Consulting?
Same question as above..
Sounds like L7 GTM/PgM or L6 PM/Eng. pretty rare that we give that level to SMs but I guess it’s not impossible.
Case by case. A common mistake that outside hires make is assuming that all years of experience are created equally. If Google is asking for 12-15 YOE for an L7 role, they really mean 12-15 relevant YOE. Most SMs come at L6 biz/L5 tech, or ~330k TC.
Yes
Sure. But SM at Deloitte is more senior the SM other places
Which role in Google?
What was this SMs total YOE? What role?
Is it possible, yes. Is it likely - no. Non tech roles will land L5, L6max - neither of which translate to $400k comp.
As for tech ladder, very unlikely to come above L5.
Numbers make sense. I interviewed with Google last year for a biz ops role - L7 non tech role and the comp was around 450k. So it makes sense. I am SM2 currently.
Declined. They wanted me to shift to Mountain View. Looking at the real estate & drive time - I declined. A 250 in Atlanta is much better than that.
