Hi all,
I joined KPMG around 3 months ago but I am not getting work here. Although, I qualified some project's interview, yet due to some internal reason, they considered someone else, and I again came on bench.
I am unable to figure out what can be done now.
Should I start searching work outside.
(I hardly see any job openings these days)

How's the resource management here?
(do they lagOff?)

There’s a few things you can do to protect yourself in this situation….
1. When the client makes negative comments or throws criticism your way, ask for proof. You want evidence.
Say: “You say that I’m X. Please tell what I’ve done to lead you to that assessment of me?”
Then wait for them to provide the actual evidence NOT their opinion.
Realize that when people are upset or in an emotional state they like to throw out their opinions and emotionally charged statements, and have YOU wallow in the your hurt feelings.
Instead, make them ACCOUNTABLE for crap they blurt out.
2. CYA (Cover your Ass)
Document and summarize every encounter you have with this difficult client. You want to have YOUR facts ready to counter their punches.
3. Stay Calm
Easier said than done. I know BUT…
The person who is the rational one in a hostile situation is the WINNER.
Practice Deep breathing and positive affirmations BEFORE you deal with the client.
REPEAT (to yourself): It’s about the situation, it’s not about me.
Too often we don’t intentionally prepare ourselves when we’re going into combative situation and preparation is CRITICAL 😎
4. Finally, look at this as a test of character.
This situation is building you up for the next time you’re in an adversarial relationship with to a client. It’s equipping you for the future.
I guarantee you, years from now you will be telling a young associate about the time you dealt with this a**hole client and you’ll be laughing about it😉
Such helpful advice! Everyone should get this info before their first job.
Do you have to keep the case? Or can you make a polite suggestion that maybe they should seek a second opinion from a different lawyer who may “align better with their goals and desired strategy”?
I agree with SC1 on most points. I would also blind copy the partner or senior counsel on your communications with the client to avoid the he said/she said dialogue. A few years ago, I had a similar experience. I had to put the client in their place several times. From that point on, tense email communications were bcc’d to my supervisor to the point that when the client spoke with my supervisor separately from me, my supervisor defended my actions and shut the client down.
