I match energy. Let the manager break the silence!
we’re in this together or not at all.
That is a huge reason why I don’t join too early anymore! I sat there for 10 minutes making small talk with my boss. Pretending to be busy is the best thing that could happen. Now I don’t join any earlier than I can stand it.
completely get that! I now join bang on time because sitting there pretending to rearrange files while dying inside is not it.
I think everyone is overthinking it. It’s like bad acting in a movie when you “try” to pretend.
Better to do your best and justify it with authenticity.
If they require you to behave as a robot, best assume they will replace you with one soon.
feels like improv with no script
I hate when this happens, usually I wait a minute or so and then just make small talk- most of the time it’s fine but I guess it depends on what your relationship to the other person is
if I know the person well, I’ll throw in a comment about the weather or their mug or whatever. But if it’s my boss... I’ll take a vow of silence.
I always try to break the silence, but my success rate is questionable. I usually blurt out something about the weather or lunch. Sometimes it lands, sometimes it makes things even weirder.
I have done the weather chat, the lunch talk, even the “this platform keeps glitching” line. Sometimes it works, sometimes I just want to log off from the embarrassment.
