The market isn’t good. Hearing about many fellow PM’s who have been searching for 6+ months with minimal traction. Definitely stick it out at your startup while you’re looking if you can.
Very true
Just stick by it .
Check out a book called “Never Search Alone” by Phyl Terry. They have free job search councils, which have been a huge help for me personally. Phyl.org for more info.
It’s not pretty. I’ve got a lot of friends in the space and some have just left it all together and basically restarted their careers because they didn’t have any other options. I worked at a startup that had similar issues and it was rough but after 2ish years with them I found my out but it was worth sticking out to have the experience going into the new company and I was never jobless.
Thanks for the insights, everyone! One of the founders is verbally abusive, passive aggressive, and short-tempered so everyday is a challenge, but I’ll try to stick around until I find another job :(
While I agree with everyone who is recommending hanging in there until you find another role, I have also worked for a verbally abusive, short-tempered egotistical asshole. YOU have to really assess what working for that person is doing to your mental health....and how it may impact your psyche in the long-term. These caustic characters have an ability to make you really begin to wonder about your true worth.
IMHO, it should be ILLEGAL for such behavior to persist, but unfortunately it is all too common in corporate world.
Hang in there, speak to people you TRUST (and likely not in the company) to help share some of the mental agony.
The market is tough. I was laid off in May this year and only recently secured a position in October. Out of hundreds of applications, I landed 4 phone screens which I was fortunate enough to get through to final stage. 1 pulled out post offer due to restructure, 1 rejected me and 2 offered.
My domain experience is in API/Integrations so it a little niche. But the general feel of the market is very tough
Truth to be told, this is very typical PM experience. Stick into it, you have to learn to be stress free in such situations and survive.
